Food and Feeding Habits of Animals

 Introduction

All living things need food to live. Plants make their own food themselves but animals cannot. So, animals either eat plants or the flesh of other animals. Different animals eat different kinds of foods. The feeding habits of different animals are also different.

Grass-eating animals (Herbivores)

Have you seen, goats, buffaloes, deer, rabbits, etc. eating grass or leaves of plants? Cows, goats, buffaloes, horses, donkeys, rabbits, yaks, etc. eat only plants. These animals are called grass-eating animals or herbivores. There are many herbivores in the forest. Rhinoceros, Giraffe, Deer, Zebras, Elephants, etc. live in the forest and eat plants. They are also herbivores.

Herbivores eat grass and the leaves of plants. They have short and sharp teeth. They have broad font teeth and flat back teeth. The front teeth help them bite grass while the flat teeth help them chew the food well. They have a strong snout. Most of them have hooves (khur).
